I'm Cara, the creator of the interactive fiction game "The Shadow Society". The game was originally published through Choice of Games in 2020 and is currently undergoing an extensive rewrite with changed plot points, pacing, scenes, overall tone and content. I abandoned the book for a long time due to dissatisfaction with the final result, but I've never been able to let go completely. And now I'm back, and happy to say that I'm full of new passion and motivation for this story that I never quite had when writing TSS the first time around. I decided to create this Patreon after making a concrete plan for and figuring out what content and rewards I'd be able to offer. The Shadow Society is a passion project and with added financial support I'll be able to dedicate more time to completing the rewrite and working on the story as a whole. Whether you're interested/able to support my work through Patreon, follow my progress on Tumblr or the COG forums or just check in once in a while out of curiosity, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support and hope that you'll come to love the world I'm rebuilding. The game still focuses heavily on relationships alongside mystery elements. One of my biggest goals is to make the relationships feel deeper and more nuanced while containing more choice than they did in the original while following a hopefully engaging plot. Choices and reactivity to those chocies are at the core of the remake, whether it concerns the bonds you forge or break, how you affect the world around you or how your main character develops during the story. CURRENT STATE OF THE GAME As of October 2025 the Patreon exclusive demo contains around 117k words. Chapter 2 has been completed and released for rebel-tier members.
